Pressurising a Combi Boiler

Everyone that’s lived with a standard conventional boiler have little to worry about in the way of maintenance. A Feed and Expansion Tank In the loft pretty much keeps the water level normal and is totally automated. However combination boilers are slightly different and many people do not know how to top up the water within the central heating system when their system has been converted to a pressurised system. It’s a task that every combination boiler owner should know how to do without the need to call a plumber and is considered a consumer operation, similar to adding washer fluid to your car for an example.

FIRSTLY

Understand how these systems operate. Combi boilers work on sealed heating systems. Meaning they do not have the usual Tanks. There are many advantages of sealed central heating systems. However we need to manually regulate the amount of water actually circulating your radiators and boiler system. And this is achieved through a filling loop, usually located close to the combination boiler and the universal type will be a silver flexible looking tube.

Now you have watched the video that fits with your boiler. remember its a good idea to turn the boiler off before you increase the pressure and leave the system to cool down. this will give you and acurate standing pressure.. when the system is heated the pressure will fluctuate higher and you could end up with too much pressure in your system.

As explained in the video links above, 1.5 bar is optimal, however anywhere between 1.5 and 2 is also fine.

if you are still having issues then give us a call.
